ANATHEMA - Μελαγχολική αύρα

Οι Anathema δημιουργήθηκαν το 1990 στο Λίβερπουλ και έπαιζαν doom metal  με αρχικό όνομα Pagan Angel. Οι βασικοί δημιουργοί του συγκροτήματος είναι τα αδέρφια Daniel Cavanagh και Vincent Cavanagh , και οι δύο τραγουδιστές, κιθαρίστες και συνθέτες για το συγκρότημα.

Στα μέσα της δεκαετίας του 1990 το συγκρότημα κέρδισε μεγάλη προσοχή με την κυκλοφορία  φοβερών δίσκων (Eternity , Alternative 4 και Judgment) όπου και έχουμε αλλαγή στη μουσική τους κατεύθυνση  σε πιο progressive rock μονοπάτια με θλιμμένες μελωδίες, στηριζόμενη περισσότερο στους ατμοσφαιρικούς ήχους και ξεκινώντας τη μετάβαση σε καθαρά φωνητικά.

Τα τραγούδια τους συνέχισαν και συνεχίζουν να εκφράζουν ένα αίσθημα κατάθλιψης και, συχνά, απόγνωση.

Η τελευταία ανακοίνωση από την επίσημη σελίδα τους στο Facebook λέει ότι οι  Anathema  αποφάσισαν να κάνουν ένα προσωρινό διάλειμμα στην πορεία τους  χωρίς να προσδιορίσουν το  διάστημα αποχής. Η  απόφαση αυτή πάρθηκε από τους αδερφούς Cavanagh λόγω των επιπτώσεων της πανδημίας που έχει επηρεάσει τους πάντες.
